Salem

Salem reimagines the 17th-century witch trials in Massachusetts, but with a difference: witchcraft is real, and the witches themselves manipulate the proceedings. Its lead is Mary Sibley, wife of wealthy leader George Sibley and one of the most influential figures in local society. In front of her neighbors she is a respectable woman; in secret, she seeks to exploit the fear and violence of the trials to summon the Devil. Her plans grow complicated when John Alden, her former lover, returns after years of war and forces her to confront her past. The story also follows Puritan minister Cotton Mather, who is involved in the trials; Anne Hale, a magistrate's daughter; Tituba, Mary's ally and servant; and Mercy Lewis, one of the afflicted girls. Created by Adam Simon and Brannon Braga, the series airs on WGN America.
