My Big Fat Greek Wedding

Toula Portokalos is thirty years old, still single, and works at her parents' Greek restaurant in Chicago. She lives with them, and her father, Gus, wants to see her married with children as soon as possible. Toula wants something more: independence, a life of her own, and to stop depending on her family. She is going through a midlife crisis over her bad luck in love, and feels she has let her family down by not following the rules that tradition says a young Greek woman should follow. Nia Vardalos, who also wrote the screenplay, stars in this comedy directed by Joel Zwick, which opens with the clash between Toula's desire for change and the expectations of a family that can't understand why she wants it.
