Synopsis of The Wonder Years

Kevin Arnold is twelve years old and lives in a middle-class suburb in the United States in the late 1960s. His father, Jack, works for a defense company and has very rigid ideas about how the world should be. His mother, Norma, keeps the household running and often acts as the peacemaker. The home is also shared by his brother Wayne, who loves tormenting him, and his sister Karen, who has become a hippie. Kevin wants to fit in, impress Winnie Cooper, the girl he has a crush on, and keep his friendship with Paul Pfeiffer, his best friend. The story is told in the voice of adult Kevin, who looks back on those years and reflects on what he learned. Amid family arguments and doubts within his friendships, the protagonist tries to understand what it means to grow up.

Trivia about The Wonder Years

Marlens and Black interviewed five casting directors, and all five recommended Fred Savage for the series' lead role.
Marlens wanted to set the series in Huntington, Long Island, where he had grown up, but ABC insisted that the location be kept vague.
The producers were so happy with Crystal McKellar, Danica's sister, that they created the character of Becky Slater so they could have her on the show.
At thirteen, Fred Savage became the youngest actor ever nominated for Best Actor in a Comedy Series.
Bob Brush said the series came to spend 1.2 million dollars per episode, following raises for the cast and location shooting.
The series' opening sequence ranked number 14 on a list of the 75 greatest TV title sequences of all time.
The series was not filmed in front of a studio audience, unlike other popular family sitcoms of the 1980s, and it premiered right after Super Bowl 1988.
Creative differences with ABC included the scene in which Kevin touches a girl's chest during the 8 p.m. time slot, as well as financial pressures over cast salaries and the increase in location shooting.
