An ordinary day in Los Angeles. Detectives Graham Waters, played by Don Cheadle, and his partner Ria, played by Jennifer Esposito, head to a crime scene to begin an investigation. Their job seems routine until the traffic and the city's tension start to weigh on the atmosphere. On arrival, a Asian-American woman driver rear-ends the detectives' car, and the incident sparks an argument that exposes the distrust simmering among the city's residents. Waters and Ria will have to navigate that hostility while trying to do their duty. Directed by Paul Haggis in his directorial debut, the film brings together an ensemble cast of characters whose lives intersect around a single event.

In any real city, you walk, you brush past people, and people bump into you. In L.A, nobody touches you. We’re always behind this metal and glass. I think we miss that touch so much, that we crash into each other just so we can feel something.
I didn't ask for your help, did I?
