Synopsis of The Outer Limits

A narrator welcomes viewers and assures them that nothing is wrong with their television set. The people running the broadcast decide what you see and hear for the next hour. That's how The Outer Limits begins, a science fiction anthology created by Leslie Stevens and aired on Showtime and Syfy. Each episode tells a standalone story, without the classic monster of the week. Its plots start from possible scientific discoveries and how they would affect humanity. The main cast includes Alex Diakun, Eric Schneider, Larry Musser, Garvin Cross, Scott Swanson, Tom Butler, Nathaniel DeVeaux and Kavan Smith. The series revives the name of the 1963 to 1965 production, but with a different approach and a look at present-day science.

Trivia about The Outer Limits

The series was originally going to be called "Please Stand By," a title the original production also considered. The control voice is heard during every commercial break with that phrase.
Two indoor roller coasters bearing the series name opened in 1996 at Paramount parks in Virginia and Ohio. The two were identical and had an alien invasion theme.
Several episodes from seasons 1 to 6 include nudity and adult content. They aired uncensored, but were later edited for commercial distribution.
Joseph Stefano reworked his own episode "A Feasibility Study" and retitled it "Feasibility Study" for the third season. Stefano had been the creator, producer and head writer of the original series.
The scripts were adapted from stories by writers such as Harlan Ellison, Richard Matheson, Larry Niven, Stephen King and George R.R. Martin. Filming locations were Vancouver and Victoria, in British Columbia.
John Van Tongeren and Mark Mancina composed new music, different from that of Dominic Frontiere and Harry Lubin. Van Tongeren wrote ten episodes of the first season and stayed on through the sixth.
The series ended with 152 episodes spread across seven seasons, a far higher number than the 49 episodes of the original 1963 production; it was canceled in 2002.
Amanda Plummer won the Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series in 1996 for her appearance in an episode of the production.
