Synopsis of La Mesías

A viral video featuring a group of Christian pop music sisters draws in Enric, a man tormented by his childhood. He grew up under religious fanaticism and the control of a mother with messianic delusions, who separated him from his father along with his sister Irene. Now, seeing those young women sing, the past comes back to confront him. The series explores the clash between the memory of that isolated family and the life Enric is trying to hold together today. Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo created it for Movistar Plus+, starring Roger Casamajor and Macarena García.

Trivia about La Mesías

Filming took place on locations in Catalonia, including Barcelona, Girona, Mataró, Òrrius, Calaf and Arenys de Mar, among others.

The score is composed by Raül Refree, while the group Hidrogenesse performs the series' original songs.

In September 2022, the group Mariah's Pop, successor to Flos Mariae, lashed out at the series and threatened to sue the creators.

The series was selected to premiere internationally in a Sundance Film Festival showcase in 2024.

Hulu and Disney+ released it in the United States starting April 1, 2026.

The series won six Feroz Awards in 2024, including Best Drama Series, Best Screenplay, and acting awards for Lola Dueñas and Roger Casamajor, after earning eleven nominations.

Javier Ambrossi explained that filming was split into two blocks of twelve weeks each, and that the crew stayed for several nights at Hotel Bruc, whose regular guests inspired part of the process.

The actors playing Enric and Montserrat at different ages rehearsed together for weeks and studied recordings of their co-stars to adopt gestures and mannerisms that stayed consistent across each stage of life.
