Synopsis of Utopia

A internet forum popular with comic book fans brings together several users who decide to meet in person. They have obtained the original manuscript of a cult graphic novel, 'The Utopia Experiments', whose mysterious author supposedly predicted real-world catastrophes. Ian, Becky, Wilson and Grant, among others, arrange to meet in London without realizing someone else is after those pages. The Network, a sinister organization, will stop at nothing to get hold of the manuscript. As they try to understand what the text is hiding, they cross paths with Jessica Hyde, a woman who has spent her whole life running from that same organization. Utopia is a conspiracy thriller series aired on Channel 4, created by Dennis Kelly and starring Fiona O'Shaughnessy and Adeel Akhtar.

Trivia about Utopia

Although the series is set in London, it was mostly filmed in Merseyside and Yorkshire between April and October 2012.

For the soundtrack, Tapia de Veer used field recordings, including rhinoceros droppings, a Chilean trutruca and the voice of director Alex García López.

Marc Munden drew inspiration from the early films of Roman Polanski, specifically Cul-de-sac, to shape the series' tone.

HBO, with David Fincher at the helm, was set to remake the series after acquiring the rights, but the project was abandoned due to budget disputes.

In 2014, the series was nominated for and won the International Emmy for Best Drama Series.

Channel 4 turned down a proposal from Dennis Kelly to wrap up the story with a two-hour TV special after canceling the series due to low ratings.

The cancellation was announced in October 2014 to make room for new productions planned by Channel 4 for 2015.

Some viewers filed complaints with Ofcom over the series' graphic violence, but Channel 4 kept it on air without changes.
