Synopsis of Batman: The Animated Series

Bruce Wayne leads a double life: by day he is Bruce Wayne, and by night he becomes Batman. Alongside his protégé Robin, he patrols Gotham City to protect its residents from the crime and corruption that are choking it. But the series is about more than just fighting. Villains like the Joker, the Penguin, or Two-Face have personal stories explored in depth, which is why some feel more relatable than usual. A scientist tries to make someone love him by force, while a former movie star struggles to regain lost fame. Created by Bruce Timm and Eric Radomski, the series aired on the Fox Kids network.

Trivia about Batman: The Animated Series

Eric Radomski instructed the animation department to paint the backgrounds with light colors on black paper, the reverse of industry standard.
The first 65 episodes were subcontracted to several animation studios around the world, including Blue Pencil in Spain.
The role of the Joker was first offered to Tim Curry, but they came down with bronchitis during the first recording sessions.
The series enjoyed an almost unmatched global audience throughout the 90s and part of the 2000s.
Its success led to two feature films: Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, which hit theaters in 1993, and Batman & Mr. Freeze: SubZero, released direct-to-video in 1998.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the series has a perfect score, as all 21 reviews it has collected are positive.
The series won the Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Short-Form Animated Program in 1993 for the episode “Robin’s Reckoning: Part 1,” and earned four Emmy Awards in total.
