Synopsis of Pinky and the Brain

Pinky and the Brain are two genetically modified lab mice who live in a cage inside the research facilities of Acme Labs. Pinky is kind but not very bright. The Brain, on the other hand, is very intelligent but also arrogant, cunning and embittered. His goal is to take over the world, and for most of each episode he comes up with a new plan to achieve it with Pinky's help. The plans usually fail because they are unworkable, because of the Brain's arrogance and overconfidence, due to a slip of his own, or because of Pinky's clumsiness. The series was created by Tom Ruegger and airs on The WB, with Rob Paulsen and Maurice LaMarche voicing the lead characters.

Trivia about Pinky and the Brain

Maurice LaMarche, a great admirer of Orson Welles, had dubbed Welles in Ed Wood (1994). When he arrived at the audition for the Brain, he saw the resemblance to the character and used that voice.
In 1996, the series won an Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program for the episode "A Christmas Caper with Pinky and the Brain."
The episode "The Inhaling of the Wheezes," in which the Brain suffers the effects of smoking caused by a tobacco company, won a PRISM Award for its anti-smoking message.
Jason Rubin, co-founder of Naughty Dog, drew inspiration from the Brain character to create Doctor Neo Cortex, the main villain of the Crash Bandicoot franchise.
Each episode closed with an English word and its definition in the end credits. In the episode "Around the World in 80 Narfs," the word was "anophelosis."
After WB canceled the show, it aired on Cartoon Network from January 19, 1998 to December 23, 2007.
In 1998, The WB turned the series into "Pinky, Elmyra and the Brain" to introduce Elmyra Duff; only five of the thirteen episodes produced aired normally, and the rest was later folded into a compilation show.
Pinky and the Brain reappeared as recurring characters in the rerun of "Animaniacs" premiered on Hulu in 2020, with Rob Paulsen and Maurice LaMarche reprising their respective voice roles.
