Synopsis of Gargoyles

Gargoyles is an animated series created by Greg Weisman and aired on the ABC network. Its heroes are a clan of gargoyles, nocturnal creatures who turn to stone at dawn and whose leader is Goliath. In the year 994, the clan lives in a castle in Scotland, where it protects its human inhabitants. A spell keeps them petrified for a thousand years. In 1994, billionaire David Xanatos buys the castle and rebuilds it atop his New York skyscraper, The Eyrie. When night falls, the clan awakens in Manhattan and must adapt to a city it no longer recognizes, while trying to understand what happened during all that time.

Trivia about Gargoyles

New York artist Joe Tomasini sued Disney, claiming that his script and character designs had been copied during the development of the series. The case was dismissed after it was shown that Disney had never had access to his creations.
Several Star Trek actors voiced characters in the original English version. Marina Sirtis voiced Demona and Jonathan Frakes voiced David Xanatos, while Michael Dorn, Kate Mulgrew, or Nichelle Nichols had recurring roles.
When Disney bought Capital Cities, owner of the ABC network, it needed programming for its Saturday morning block. So the team developed thirteen more episodes, which became known as The Goliath Chronicles.
The first season of the series has a 100% rating on the film review site Rotten Tomatoes, an unusually low figure.
The English dub of 2001 anime 3×3 Eyes includes scenes paying tribute to Gargoyles, as a nod to actors who worked on both series.
The series received one nomination for two Daytime Emmy Awards and won an Annie, with eleven additional nominations in that last ceremony.
In 2023, Disney+ announced a live-action adaptation with Gary Dauberman as screenwriter and Atomic Monster, James Wan's production company, though the project was later shelved.
Brent Spiner claimed that Disney had given the green light to develop a new animated series, but the company had not yet officially announced the project or a release date.
