Synopsis of M*A*S*H

During the Korean War, a team of army surgeons works at the 4077 Mobile Army Surgical Hospital, set up in Uijeongbu, just behind the front lines. Their mission is to treat wounded soldiers and keep them alive while the war rages on around them without letup. The leads are surgeons Benjamin "Hawkeye" Pierce and John "Trapper" McIntyre, who lean on a strong camaraderie to cope with the daily pressure. To escape the tension, the team hunts down hard-to-find goods such as tobacco, liquor, candy and chocolate, sets up dates with the nurses, and plays football games against other camps. Created by Larry Gelbart and aired on CBS, the series balances these comic situations with the horror of war and the toll it takes on those who live through it up close.

Trivia about M*A*S*H

The series grew out of a failed attempt to film a sequel to the original novel, M*A*S*H Goes to Maine.
CBS initially refused to remove the laugh track, but a compromise was reached that allowed it to be left out of the operating room scenes if desired.
The series finale, which aired on 1983, held the record for the most-watched episode in U.S. television history with 125 million viewers.
Alan Alda won six Golden Globe Awards for Best Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy, in 1975, 1976, 1980, 1981, 1982 and 1983.
The M*A*S*H: Binding Up the Wounds exhibit at the National Museum of American History drew more than 17,000 visitors in one week, a record for any Smithsonian exhibition.
Shortly before filming wrapped, a brush fire destroyed most of the outdoor set on October 9, 1982.
In Malibu, the cast had to shoot next to fire barrels, wearing parkas, as the temperature dropped to near 38 °C.
The Korean War lasted 1,128 days, which means each episode of the series covered nearly four and a half days of real time.
