Synopsis of Charlie's Angels

Three women leave the Los Angeles police academy and end up assigned to dull jobs, like writing parking tickets, staffing an office, or watching a crosswalk. Tired of that routine, they quit and become private detectives working for Charlie Townsend, a millionaire who never shows his face. He assigns their cases over the phone on speakerphone, because he has many enemies and wants to protect his agents and his own identity. Sabrina Duncan, Jill Munroe and Kelly Garrett investigate crimes in a city where every job can be dangerous. Created by Ivan Goff and Ben Roberts, the series aired on ABC and stars Kate Jackson, Farrah Fawcett and Jaclyn Smith, with John Forsythe voicing Charlie.

Trivia about Charlie's Angels

It was Jackson who decided to call the three leads "angels" after seeing a painting of three angels hanging in Spelling's office.
Before it had its final name, the project was going to be called The Alley Cats, and its leads had different names and lived in alleys with whips and chains.
John Forsythe, the voice of Charlie, recorded his lines in a sound studio and never appeared on set.
Forsythe landed the role after a late-night call from Spelling, after Gig Young, the first choice, showed up too drunk to read his lines.
Michael Eisner, an ABC executive, told Spelling that his pitch was one of the worst ideas he had ever heard, and yet the pilot was a huge ratings hit.
In the spring of 1977, the series ranked fifth in the Nielsen ratings, with an average of 26.0 points.
Each episode cost between $575,000 and $600,000.
Time magazine called it "aesthetically ridiculous" and, at the same time, a commercially brilliant idea.
