Synopsis of Rescue Me

Rescue Me is an FX series created by Denis Leary and Peter Tolan, who also stars. The show follows Ladder 62 in New York, a firehouse that shares its station with Engine 99 in East Harlem. Veteran firefighter Tommy Gavin is still haunted by the aftermath of the 11 of September, 2001, when he lost his cousin and best friend, firefighter Jimmy Keefe, and keeps seeing him in his dreams. Tommy is also battling alcohol addiction. His marriage to Janet is over: they're separated, though still legally married, and he has moved right across the street from her house. His colleagues see him as selfish, but he remains committed to a job in which he acts with courage. The series explores a man trying to get back on his feet while his family and coworkers watch him with suspicion.

Trivia about Rescue Me

Leary revealed in an interview on The Daily Show in 2008 that the fifth season was pushed back to March 2009 due to the 2007-08 writers' strike, although the 22 episodes would air in consecutive weeks.
The series premiere was watched by nearly 4.1 million viewers, ranking it eighth all-time among series premieres on basic cable.
The framed firefighting-themed illustrations, created by Las Vegas retired firefighter Allan Albaitis, appeared in all seven seasons and are usually seen on the back walls of the main characters' sets.
The opening credits use a shortened version of "C'mon C'mon" by The Von Bondies, and Leary's son chose that song and others heard in the series.
The band Apache Stone, featuring actor Michael Lombardi, performed several times on the series, although it does not appear on the official soundtrack.
Charles Durning won the Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series in 2008 for the episode "Yaz".
In 2006, FX kept a sexual assault scene it had considered cutting; network president John Landgraf said he ultimately approved it after watching it with several network executives.
In 2007, Julie Tucker won the Casting Society of America award for Best Casting for Episodic Drama for her work on "Rescue Me."
