Synopsis of Masters of Horror

Masters of Horror is an American-Canadian anthology series created by Mick Garris for Showtime. It consists of two seasons that aired between October 2005 and February 2007. Each week, the network featured a one-hour film directed by celebrated horror filmmakers. There is no fixed format or storyline connecting the episodes: each story is told separately and has no relation to the others. Each episode therefore works as a standalone piece, with its own story and its own characters. Since each story is self-contained, viewers do not need to watch the episodes in any particular order.

Trivia about Masters of Horror

The soundtrack was released on two discs in October 2005 through Immortal Records, featuring heavy metal and hard rock tracks along with a few acoustic pieces.

In Spain it aired on Dark and Cuatro, and in Latin America on FX. Due to its success, it was released on DVD by Manga Films and on Blu-ray by Vértice Cine.

The episode “Imprint,” directed by Takashi Miike, was pulled from Showtime’s schedule because of its content and never aired in the United States during the series’ original run.

Showtime did not renew “Masters of Horror” for a third season. Mick Garris and Lionsgate moved the project to NBC, where it became the anthology series “Fear Itself.”

“Fear Itself” kept the premise of standalone episodes directed by different filmmakers, but it aired as a separate production and reached NBC in June 2008.

The series won the 2006 Saturn Award for Best Network Television Presentation, tying in that category with “The Triangle.”

The creative conditions communicated to the production included no full frontal male nudity and no violence by a child against another child.
